Hegelianisms
- The Absolute (also used by Schelling) The ultimate foundation of knowledge, usually identified as certain knowledge of one’s own consciousness and identity as a thinking subject.
- Nous The Greek word for reason, meaning not merely empirical knowledge, but genuine understanding. For Hegel, this was the goal of philosophy.
- Spirit (Germ. Geist) The mind, soul, or spirit that not only motivates individual consciousness, but also can inhabit and motivate world civilization, nature, and the universe.
